I think the most important part about act one was when Romeo met Juliet at the party. It was where the plot started and is foreshadowing the future events of the book. It brought Romeo out of his former depression over his loss of love and into a new forbidden love with Juliet before she even meets her so called husband, Paris.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you J-dawg. This is important because this starts a conflict between ideas of the capulet and montagues. And they are falling in love, so cute.
ReplyDeleteThe most important part of Act I was the fight between servents in the street. This is because it sets the stage for everything that is going to happen in the book. There is also foreshadowing when esculus says that death will be upon everyone at the scene.
ReplyDeleteThe most important part of act one was when romeo met Juliet. this was the most important because they both like each other and know that they are of enemy families.
ReplyDeleteThe most important part of act one is the hate that is shown between the C's and The M's. If they didn't hate each other, the plot would be drastically different. There would be no conflict. No one would die. The book wouldn't have the same impact or meaning. not to mention how incredibly boring it would be to watch Romeo and Juliet go"I love you." "I love you too" "Let's get married" "OK. Good thing there's no conflict." "Yes, that would complicate things i suppose" "but there's not, so i love you."
ReplyDeleteI think that the most significant part in Act 1 is when Romeo and Juliet meet at the Capulet`s party. The plot begins here because, Romeo realizes that he has found true love, but also realizes that it`s too late because Juliet is a Capulet and he is a Montague.
ReplyDeleteI think that the most important event in Act 1 was when Romeo goes to the party and sees Juliet. If he hadn't attended, Juliet would have probably married Paris, who her father agreed on, and Romeo would have just been depressed in his own little world. There would be no additional conflict or tension between the Montagues and the Capulets. The plot really starts at that point.
ReplyDeleteI think the most important part of Act 1 was when Romeo and Juliet met at the party because it sets up the rest of the book and got Romeo out of his depression over the other girl.
ReplyDeleteThe most important part of Act 1 was when Romeo and Juliet meet at the Capulet party. At the party, Romeo realizes that his love for Rosaline was nothing compared to his love for Juliet. So, Romeo finally stops being such a downer and finds true love...awwww. Now that they've met and this forbidden love has been introduced, the reader knows tough it's going to be for Romeo and Juliet to stay together(because of their family feuds).

ReplyDeleteThe most important parts of act one in Romeo and Juliet were the two separate points. One being the way the two family's (Capulet's & Montague's) felt about one another and the other the moment Romeo met Juliet. Act one introduced the characters and began to introduce the conflict. The two main characters have finally met (and Romeo already seems to think he is in love).
ReplyDeleteI'm enjoying reading all of your comments. I agree that the plot truly begins with the kiss between Romeo and Juliet. Act I serves to set the stage for the play (remember the five acts of Shakespeare we discussed in class?). It's important to recognize the importance of the other points that have been posted...the fighting, the foreshadowing of death, the history of the battle between the two families and how much this feud infiltrates the actions of almost all of the characters. Keep posting!
ReplyDeletealso--Freddie, you crack me up.
ReplyDeleteI think the most important part of Act 1 is... when Romeo met the C's servingman and read the letter of the poeple invited to the party. In doing so he saw that his love Rosaline will be at the party so he decides to go. Thus casuing him to set eyes and find his new love Juliet. Furthermore causing him to raise out of his party pooper and down in the dumps mood... for a while.
ReplyDeleteI believe the most important plot element ot Act 1 is the meeting of Romeo and Juliet. The entire story and their eventual death is becuase they were lovers, which happenned after they saw eachother at the party.
ReplyDeleteSetting up that the Montague and Capulet fued is another important happenning. They are the reason that Romeo and Juliet have a strained relationship.
I agree with Mike. Also, I like what Degas said about the book without any conflict. I think the most significant part is that Romeo, a Montague attended a Capulet party knowing that he could be killed, just to see Rosaline. It was then kinda by chance that he saw Juliet and the plot of the book started.
ReplyDeleteI think Romeo meeting Juliet at the party is the most important, it sets up the rest of the play.
ReplyDeleteI think that the most important part of Act I is when Romeo and Juliet met at the party. This creates the main love story in the book. Without this scene it would just be like, Romeo versus Juliet.
ReplyDeleteI already made a comment, i be bored now and is about to do me 1 page response
ReplyDeleteWell... I suppose the most important part of scene one was the opening scene, showing the hatred the Capulets have for the Montagues.
ReplyDeleteI think the most significant part of Act 1 is when the servingman asked Romeo to read the list of people that were supposed to be going to the party.I think that this is the most sifnificant part because that is when Romeo decides to illegally go to the Capulet party. Romeo finds that Rosaline is going to the party and since he is so love sick over her, he wants to see her again. If Romeo would not have known that Rosaline was going to the party, he would not have gone and met Juliet. The meeting of Romeo and Juliet really "started" the plot of the story.
ReplyDeleteI think the most important part of Act 1 is when Romeo and Juliet meet.I think that this proves that you can hate someone but love someone also. Such as Romeo and Juliet. They had to hate each other but at the same time they fell in love. They went behind their parents and fell in love. When they met this really started the story plot for me.
ReplyDeleteI think the most signifigant part of act 1 is when Romeo meets Juliet. She is his new love who he has essencially set himself up to go after. We know this because of his obsession with Rosaline and he states that she has got nothing on Juliet. If his relationships have any parallels then he stting himself up for a broken heart.
ReplyDeleteYou know, after reading shawns comment, I feel like Romeo is the girl figure in the book and that Juliet is the boy. Wierd....
ReplyDeleteI think the most significant part in Act 1 is when Romeo attends the party and meets Juliet because a new feeling of love is introduced to him. If Romeo had not attended the Capulet party, he never would have gotten over his feelings of his unreturned love.
ReplyDeleteI believe the most significant event in the 1st act is when Romeo and Juliet met. The book is called Romeo and Juliet, so the meeting would you know, be pretty important. I could be wrong. I also think that scene is important because it shows how strong the feud is between the Monts and Caps. These people evidently love each other (I still find this hard to believe), but this fight between family's makes them think twice. I also think it is a good idea to have them meet early on in the play. They now have time to grow and get to know each other. If Will was to have them meet at the middle or the end, you couldn't get to know the characters as well. In short, it makes for a lousy play.
ReplyDeleteThe hate shown between the Capulets and Montagues has to be the most important part. I can't put it any different than Michael Dages, but I'll try. Imagine the families not hating each other. What would the story be about? I imagine it would be the relationship, and then marriage of Romeo and Juliet. Maybe they would have kids. It would basically be an average episode of Everybody Loves Raymond. Romeo could have a set of overbearing, rude parents that live across the street...I'll end this now. My response has become a rant.
ReplyDeleteP.S. Cockerel's Stone!
I'm glad we are finding humor in Romeo and Juliet as well as actually discussing the merit of Act I. Although a tragedy, Shakespeare did entertain audiences by incorporating comic relief characters. Despite his efforts, I would guess that Shakespeare didn't know that an English 9Honors class in 2009 would find cockerel stone so humorous...
ReplyDeleteSince we didn't get our vocab stuff back today, will there be a quiz tomorrow?
ReplyDeleteYou know what i find interesting is Romeo and Juliette is concidered one of Shakespears more "comical" tradgedies...and personally i think romeo is rathe comical, i like the way Marcucio and Tybalt act too, it adds to the excitement. I think the scene where the prince threatens execution against the next "fighte3rs" is mopst significant, it marks the beginning of a forced peace of sorts.
ReplyDeleteI think the most significant event in Act 1 in Shakespears' "Romeo and Juliet" was; like most people said, when Romeo and Juliet first met at the Capulets party. Without thi ssignificant event Romeo and Juliet would not have discovered true love; only love that was arranged or not returned. Also, this event proves to be significant because, without it this novel would not have reached its true potential, its true beauty as a classic work of literature; as well as theatrical performence. This is beccause this event triggers the forbiden love; the utmost passion that makes this book memrable, and begins the plot of "Romeo and Juliet."
ReplyDeleteMicheal: I love your comment! :P
ReplyDeleteit's not that great.
ReplyDeleteIn theory, Romeo never would have met Juliet without first meeting the servant. When the servant asked Romeo to read the list he did a favor for the servant, who in turn invited him to sed party. So the most important part of the book is the encounter between the Capulet servant and Romeo.
ReplyDeleteI definitely think that the most significant event in ACT 1 is the introduction of Romeo to Juliet. There would be no story line if they never met at that party. It also hooks the reader by the thrill of knowing what problems come with passionate love that is greatly forbidden. It begins to show the true story of Romeo and Juliet’s tragic love story :)
ReplyDeleteGood comment, Taylor. I like your reference to the problems of a passionate, forbidden love.
ReplyDeletesorry Im a little late on this assignment but I have been busy with all of my make up work and tests that have been done but Im fine now. Even though we are already on act 3 I think that the most important part of Act 1 is when Romeo and Juliet meet. There would be no story if they never met. I think its super cute how much they love eachother even though their families are enemies.
