June 8--SUMMER READING

Hi all. I don't know how many of you will ever check this over the summer, but I'd like to encourage SUMMER READING that isn't the required books for our class. I started The Wednesday Letters by Jason Wright. I'll let you know what I think. I'd recommend both She's Come Undone and I Know This Much is True by Wally Lamb if you are looking for good reads.
What are you reading, and what do you recommend?

  2. I too will be reading some this summer. Probably books not very many of you would enjoy..."Last Ametuers" (Patriot League Basketball)..."Golf my Way" (Jack Nicklaus)..."Guns of August" (WWI). I've already started these and my goal is to finish two of them. Going to start on "Golf my Way" right now! Peace :)

  3. I went to the library today and got a few books. I've just finished one called The Raven. It was a very nice light read, and followed the smae plot line as Twilight, so if you like Twilight I highly recomend this book. It was weird at first, but after the first 20 pages or so it gets really intresting. And unlike Twilight, they explain the orgins of the people.

  4. I read another book and it was odd. It is called Alis, and is about a 14 year old girl who has to marry her 40 year old minister. It's a book that makes you think, but I wouldn't highly recomend it.

  5. I finished The Wednesday Letters. Good read--quick read. Some suspenseful points that keep you reading to see what happens. Family drama. Loved the end. Found points I could relate to. I'm starting The Road by Cormac McCarthy--the one Eric read this semester. I'll keep you updated.

  6. Another book down. I read Twice Upon A MariGold, which was the sequel to a book I read in 4th grade. Yeah, it was a fourth grade book. The plot was obvious and the book was written funny. It was a cute light read though. I'm starting Airhead by Meg Cabot that steph suggested.

  7. I want to read a book called "the uglies". My sister told me about it. she said it's a lot like the giver. That was a good book. But i've got my hands full with Lies, not to mention the TWO books you assigned us, Headrick! lol. oh well.

  8. I started reading Airhead today, and I thought it was another one of those "popular girl has a sucky life" kinda of book, but it was good. Though I swear I've read a few of Meg's books and they are all the same. I was sad when I finished reading it because she didn't really finish the story. Oh well, at least there's a sequel.

  9. Almost finished with The Road. Much darker than I anticipated but I'm drawn to find out more about the motivation of the character. I guess that's why I keep reading it although I'm finding it depressing. Freaddie--I've heard The Uglies is good. Plus, it has follow up books along the same themes. I'd like to know what you think. I hope you'll find connection to the two books I've assigned. As to you, Dubby, how do you read so quickly? You must not be taking care of a 3-year-old girl and a 2-year-old boy!! :)

  10. I'm taking care of my brothers, sisters, and cousin. Just the books I read are somewhat short and are only 300-400 pages long. That, and I have no life right now.

  11. O.K so I looked at my final grades, and I was one precentage away from having all A+. I are sad :*(

  12. Read another book called Wings. It was actually one of the better books I have ever read. It was very intresting, though it did remind me of the Spiderwick series. I would strongly recomend this book!

  13. Finished The Road. Started Eat the Document. The Road had an interesting writing style, was depressing. Hope Eat the Document has a more uplifting storyline.

  14. I did the unspeakable- I didn't finish a book I started reading! *gasps in horror* Yeah I don't do that very often, but the book was so boring. It's called As Dark As Gold, I think. I am now one to reading Ready Or Not by Meg Cabot, The Uglies by who knows, and our APUSH book.
